Mount Sumbing, standing at 3,371 meters, is the second-highest volcano in Central Java and a twin volcano to Mount Sindoro. This stratovolcano is known for its steep and challenging trails, making it a favorite among experienced hikers.
Unlike its twin, Mount Sumbing has a large crater at the summit with a mix of rocky terrain, volcanic ash, and sulfur vents, offering a raw, adventurous experience. The trek is demanding but rewarding, with stunning views of nearby peaks, rolling clouds, and a breathtaking sunrise.

Popular Route: Garung Trail (Most Common & Challenging)
Duration: 7-9 hours to summit, 5-6 hours descent.
At the summit crater, hikers will find Volcanic vents emitting sulfuric steam,
Jagged crater walls and loose volcanic rocks.
Breathtaking sunrise views over Mount Sindoro, Merbabu, and Merapi.Camping overnight is common, as many hikers prefer a pre-dawn summit push for the sunrise. The lack of water sources along the route means hikers must carry sufficient water for the entire trek.

Best Time to Visit
April to September (Dry season) – Best weather and clear views.
Avoid October to March – Heavy rains make the trails extremely slippery and dangerous.
