A Rewarding Trek for All Levels
Mount Sindoro, standing at 3,153 meters, is an active stratovolcano located in Central Java, near its twin volcano, Mount Sumbing. Known for its breathtaking sunrise views and vast savannah landscapes, Sindoro offers a relatively moderate climb compared to other Javanese volcanoes. The trek rewards hikers with stunning crater views, wildflower fields, and panoramic vistas of neighboring peaks.
While the summit area has an active crater that emits sulfuric gases, it is generally safe for climbers. Sindoro is also popular among locals, especially for weekend hikes and overnight camping near the summit.
Permit required, Guide recommended

Mount Sindoro is famous for its relatively gradual ascent, making it a good choice for hikers with moderate experience. The trails pass through dense pine forests, vast grasslands, and rocky summit terrain.
Popular Route: Kledung Trail
Kledung Village (1,500m elevation).
Duration: 6-8 hours to summit, 4-5 hours descent.
Trekkers often camp overnight near the summit to witness the magnificent sunrise. The views extend across Mount Sumbing, Merbabu, Merapi, and Slamet, offering one of the best panoramas in Java.
The crater at the summit is still active, producing occasional sulfur fumes. Visitors should be cautious, especially when the wind carries the gas towards the trail.

Best Time to Visit
April to September (Dry season) is ideal.
Avoid October to March due to heavy rainfall, slippery trails, and limited visibility.
